Welcome to your journey of parenthood. To help you feel ready for this journey, we offer free education classes at Toowoomba Hospital.
The below classes rotate weekly and are either on a Monday or a Saturday. We do kindly ask families to book into our classes by phoning the Antenatal Clinic on 4616 6201.
Childbirth Education Class
This class aims to prepare you for the journey into parenthood. We start at the beginning, guiding you through the stages of labour, when to come to hospital, your pain relief options, what happens when things don’t go to plan, newborn settling techniques and challenges you may face in parenthood. We’ll also take you on a guided tour of our maternity ward and birthing suites so you can familiarise yourself with our facilities.
Childbirth Education class is on Saturdays from 9am to 3:00pm.
Breastfeeding Education Class
This class is designed to help you improve your chances of breastfeeding your newborn successfully. Our midwives will teach you about breast changes, how breastmilk is made, the importance of supply and demand, how to achieve good attachment and how to cope with breastfeeding challenges.
Breastfeeding Education class is on Mondays from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
Emotional Wellbeing Education
Your emotional wellbeing is important during pregnancy, your birthing journey and motherhood. It’s important to prepare for the emotional realities and challenges, and this class does just that. Our midwives will discuss emotional stress, strategies for coping with emotional stress, how to manage challenges and the importance of staying emotionally well for you and your baby.
Emotional Wellbeing Education class is on Mondays from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
Gestational Diabetes Education
If you’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and feel overwhelmed, this class is for you. Our gestational diabetes educators will educate you on how to stay healthy during your pregnancy, the importance of sleep, physical activity during pregnancy, preparing for breastfeeding, your care during labour, blood sugar monitoring for your baby and what to expect beyond pregnancy.

Healthy Habits in Pregnancy
Eating a healthy and nourishing diet is important for your health and your growing baby. This class discusses healthy lifestyle choices, healthy weight gain, food safety, sample meal plans, physical activity, and nutrition for new mums.
Healthy Habits in Pregnancy class is on Mondays from 12:30 to 2:30pm.
Non-English-Speaking Background Education
You can learn about your pregnancy and birthing journey with the help of our face-to-face interpreter. We encourage you to ask our midwife any questions you may have about your care at our maternity unit. This class includes discussions about tests and scans offered during your pregnancy, when to come to hospital, what to bring to hospital, pain relief options, and your care after birth.
Non-English-Speaking Background Education class is on Mondays from 12.30pm to 2:30pm.
Whether you’re a first-time dad, or growing your family, this class discusses issues related to becoming a dad. You’ll learn how to best support your partner during their pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey. This class will also help you gain confidence in how to interact with your baby and be involved in your baby’s care.
Fatherhood is a journey, and you’ll meet other expectant dads going through similar feelings, thoughts, and experiences.
Father's class is on Mondays from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
Vaginal Birth After Caesarean (VBAC) Section Education
If your previous birth was a caesarean section, and you’d like to have your baby as a VBAC, this class is for you. Our midwives will discuss your birthing options after a caesarean section, benefits and risks of a vaginal birth or a repeat caesarean section, strategies for labour and birth to improve your chances of a vaginal birth and how to cope with unexpected outcomes.
This class is on Mondays from 12.30pm to 2.30pm or 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
