Dalby Hospital patients and residents of Karingal Rural Aged Care Facility will soon have access to more choice in their meals thanks to a new $4.1 million state-of-the-art kitchen.

Located in the old Karingal Aged Care building, Acting Executive Director Infrastructure, Dave Pugsley said a portion of the space has undergone a complete refurbishment to make way for the kitchen.

“This new kitchen space is light, bright, and exciting and we know staff are looking forward to utilising the new area.

“The modern ergonomic design will further ensure the highest standards of efficiency, hygiene, and quality continue to be met in meal preparation at Dalby Hospital.

“This state-of-the-art facility not only elevates our food service capabilities at Dalby Hospital, but also reflects Darling Downs Health’s dedication to enhancing the overall experience for the community.

“Operational staff will move into the new kitchen in the coming months, once carparking and driveway works are finalised,” Mr Pugsley said.

Dalby Hospital Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Jane O’Donnell said the bigger space and the addition of some new kitchen technology means the facility will be able to introduce a meal of the week.

“This will be an extra option to patients and residents to choose from alongside the meal of the day and cold meal.

“Increasing choice, contributes to increasing patient and resident wellbeing, which in turn promotes better health outcomes for our community.

“Staff have been involved in the design process and are very much looking forward to moving into the new space.

“They’re particularly excited about the addition of the new kitchen appliances including a Sous Vide Machine and Burlodges.

“Everything is new and fresh, the kitchen will help increase staff productivity and efficiency, improve work satisfaction and also assist with making Dalby Hospital more sustainable,” Mrs O’Donnell said.

The project was funded by the State Government’s Sustaining Capital Program.
