Expectant mothers in Goondiwindi can now give birth in a more calming and modern environment after renovations to the hospital’s birthing suites were completed.
Following feedback from the Goondiwindi community and local staff, the two rooms have now been upgraded to a more modern look, with most of the equipment now hidden away behind new cabinetry. The previous flooring has also been replaced.
Darling Downs Health Chief Executive Annette Scott PSM, said the rooms were now more welcoming to mothers and feel less clinical.
“The birthing suites are now more inviting and welcoming to expectant mothers,” Ms Scott said.
“As we’ve received the feedback from the community and our local team we’ve been able to plan for these improvements to create a more modern, comfortable, and efficient environment.”

Goondiwindi Midwifery Unit Manager Kerryanne Maddox said it was pleasing that staff feedback had also been incorporated into the design of the birthing suites.
“Part of the feedback we received was the need to improve the lighting and visual amenity of the rooms.
Through the refurbishment we now have better lighting, which is now more conducive to helping mothers give birth,” said Ms Maddox.
At least five families have already experienced the new setting since the renovations were completed.
The renovations were possible thanks to the generosity of the Goondiwindi Hospital Auxiliary Committee and the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation.
Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Jude Wills said it was wonderful to see the birthing suites fully upgraded.
“The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation is proud to have supported the Goondiwindi Hospital with these important upgrades,” Ms Wills said.
“This project is a wonderful example of community spirit in action and directly improves care for families across the region.”
Some finishing touches to the birthing suites are being finalised, with artwork set to be added to the walls.
