Expressions of interest for 2026 appointments to the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Board are now open.

Hospital and Health Boards play a critical role in providing oversight, driving service delivery, good governance and accountability across the health service.

Darling Downs Hospital and Health Board Chair Dr Dennis Campbell said the board played an important role setting the strategic direction of the organisation and ensuring the effective delivery of care to communities across the region.

He said since his appointment as Chair in April 2024, the board had increased its focus on strategies that support improved patient and staff well-being, as well as improving access for patients into health services.

“The board has also been excited to see the region’s extensive capital works program come to fruition with the new Toowoomba Hospital starting to take shape as well as new facilities at Millmerran and Tara,”

Darling Downs Hospital and Health Board Member Merrilyn Strohfeldt said she joined the board last year because, after a lifelong career in health, she wanted to give back to the community.

“I love being responsible and accountable for how we deliver services that are world-class across the Darling Downs and making sure that our people are well looked after,” Ms Strohfeldt said.

Merrilyn said the board is made up of diverse professionals from across the Darling Downs, with members coming together every month for two days to review the health services’ performance.

Urging those who wanted to join the Hospital and Health Board, Ms Strohfeldt said to be clear about their experience and to be “prepared for hard work.”

Expressions of interest for appointment to Hospital and Health Board positions will be open for six weeks from 28 July 2025 to 7 September 2025.
