Darling Downs Health is proud to invite First Nations artists to submit a Registration of Interest (EOI) for a major commissioned artwork that will feature in the New Toowoomba Hospital, one of the largest and most transformative health infrastructure projects in regional Queensland.
This significant opportunity is part of the Queensland Government’s $18.5 billion Hospital Rescue Plan, which is delivering new and expanded healthcare services across the state. The New Toowoomba Hospital, located on the scenic Baillie Henderson campus, will provide world-class care to meet the needs of the region’s growing population.
The vision for the New Toowoomba Hospital campus will be a world-class health and knowledge precinct experience, centred around the new Toowoomba Hospital. The strikingly beautiful 75 hectare campus includes tree-lined spaces interconnected between heritage buildings, multidisciplinary health services, research, education, commercial, and community recreation spaces.
In Partnership with Darling Downs Health and Health Infrastructure Queensland, Children’s Health Queensland’s Arts in Health team is leading a bold vision to integrate creativity into healthcare spaces, bringing moments of calm, connection, and cultural safety to patients, staff and visitors. The commissioned artworks will play a vital role in shaping a more healing and culturally safe experience.
Children’s Health Queensland’s Strategic Arts in Health Lead, Lynne Seear, said research continues to show the powerful impact of art in healthcare environments.
“Art helps bring down the heart rate, provoke a hormonal ‘joy response’, reduce stress and offer a moment of contemplation and distraction for staff and patients,”

“While clinicians remain the experts in diagnosis and treatment, carefully curated art can elevate the experience of care and inspire people during some of the most stressful times in their lives.
“We’re incredibly excited to open this Registration of Interest to First Nations artists. This region is home to extraordinary artistic talent, and this legacy project offers a unique opportunity to showcase that creativity at scale, while also strengthening cultural safety and supporting the creative economy.”
